I have a painting by Richard LaDow that I would like to sell.  I can provide pictures - it is acrylic on canvas and about 4 feet square.  My parents bought it from the artist around 1970 on a visit to SB.  If anyone is interested, please contact me at patentworker@hotmail.com.
Hi Michael, I knew your Uncle Richard LaDow. I lived in Santa Barbara from age 13-17. He graciously gave up his little house(the Yellow Door Gallery) so that my mom and the three of us kids had a place to live. He was a great friend of my family, a kind gentle person and a fantastic artist. My mom was also an artist and the two of them use to set up next to each other at the beach during the weekend art walks. We were also very close friends with Bob and Sandy Stites. Did you ever meet them? Wonderful memories from a very long time ago.
Michael,

Saw your old post looking for info on your uncle. I have many memories of him as a kid in Santa Barbara. My dad was one of his biggest fans and owns more than 20 of his paintings. I can email you pics of them if you like. We saw him often at the beach on Sundays, and had him over to the house for dinner from time to time. I could put you in touch with my dad, he knew him very well.

Thanks,
Mike Reitz

Sorry I haven't responded sooner, just saw your kind note. Yes, he was such a good person. I deeply regret not spending MUCH more time with him over the years. Miss him very much. I continue to hear from people who have some of this work (most recent just yesterday). I wish I had a lot more information about him. I used to visit Dick and enjoyed those brief visits so much. He also shared a gallery with a gal in Ventura for a while, prior to settling in SB. I loved the days walking on the beach with him. Had cheese and wine...just talking..observing...very peaceful.

My memories of Dick go way back. Before his interest in pursuing painting. My older brother probably has a few of the very old photos of him...he would (on very rare occasions visit our home) We also (my older brother) may still have some early drawing studies he did when Dick began to commit himself to art. Please feel free to correspond again. Any additional information would be wonderful.

I did hear he was a VERY good chess player, and that he would enlist help stretching canvas from students at UCSB.

Very sincerely, Michael Hansen ) Michael Richard Hansen......
